It was a dream come true for The Heavyweights to arrive in great city of New Orleans for the first time as a band!
Having moved to NOLA to study and perform courtesy of the Ontario Arts Council, Chris Butcher suggested the band come down to join him to soak up the culture and draw some inspiration from the music scene that has been such a tremendous influence on our work.
Over the course of the trip, The Heavyweights participated in parades, performed at Ooh Poo Pah Doo, caught shows by several local bands and spent hours recording new material at Word of Mouth Studios.
The band would like to thank Joe Lastie (Preservation Hall), Roger Lewis (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), and Ashlin Parker (Trumpet Mafia, Ellis Marsalis) for adding their unique musical voices to our recording and Tim Stambaugh for capturing all the sounds! Also, a huge thank you to Johnny Ginn at Carp’e Diem Films and Photography and Judy Broadus for having us at Ooh Poo Pah Doo.
Stay tuned for fresh audio and video….
